My name is Philip. I’m currently in the Elkhart County Correctional Facility. I’m 54 years old. I’ve been locked up since 2005 off and on, spending over 16 years in almost every prison in Indiana. I guess you would call it the life installment plan. I’ve been to prison 11 times. Not something I’m proud of. I found myself back in Elkhart again facing more years than I ever wanted to do. The past seven months have been very challenging. I actually was going to give up this time. I have to admit that being in this jail has saved my life again.

I would like to say a few things about the Jail Ministry. It is something special. Out of all the negatives of being incarcerated, the Jail Ministry is the one shining light. They do a lot of good in the community and in the jail by giving people hope and direction. They offer tattoo removal, Bibles and classes.

I’m in the Program Dorm taking numerous classes the Jail Ministry is involved in. I truly enjoy having a chance to learn and take part in what is offered here, even though I’m in jail. I happen to the know the Chaplain on a first name basis. I don’t think it would be out of line to say we’re friends. I truly enjoy his company and outlook about life’s challenges. He and his assistants are great. Thank you to all the people who are part of the Jail Ministry and those who make these privileges happen for us incarcerated individuals. Thank you all. Phillip
